Al-Humazah

وَيْلٌ لِكُلِّ هُمَزَةٍ لُمَزَةٍ ﴿1﴾

Woe to every backbiter, slanderer,

الَّذِي جَمَعَ مَالًا وَعَدَّدَهُ ﴿2﴾

who amasses wealth ˹greedily˺ and counts it ˹repeatedly˺,

يَحْسَبُ أَنَّ مَالَهُ أَخْلَدَهُ ﴿3﴾

thinking that their wealth will make them immortal!

كَلَّا ۖ لَيُنْبَذَنَّ فِي الْحُطَمَةِ ﴿4﴾

Not at all! Such a person will certainly be tossed into the Crusher.

وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا الْحُطَمَةُ ﴿5﴾

And what will make you realize what the Crusher is?

نَارُ اللَّهِ الْمُوقَدَةُ ﴿6﴾

˹It is˺ Allah’s kindled Fire,

الَّتِي تَطَّلِعُ عَلَى الْأَفْئِدَةِ ﴿7﴾

which rages over the hearts.

إِنَّهَا عَلَيْهِمْ مُؤْصَدَةٌ ﴿8﴾

It will be sealed over them,

فِي عَمَدٍ مُمَدَّدَةٍ ﴿9﴾

˹tightly secured˺ with long braces.1
