At-Tariq

وَالسَّمَاءِ وَالطَّارِقِ ﴿1﴾

By the heaven and the nightly star!

وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا الطَّارِقُ ﴿2﴾

And what will make you realize what the nightly star is?

النَّجْمُ الثَّاقِبُ ﴿3﴾

˹It is˺ the star of piercing brightness.

إِنْ كُلُّ نَفْسٍ لَمَّا عَلَيْهَا حَافِظٌ ﴿4﴾

There is no soul without a vigilant angel ˹recording everything˺

فَلْيَنْظُرِ الْإِنْسَانُ مِمَّ خُلِقَ ﴿5﴾

Let people then consider what they were created from!

خُلِقَ مِنْ مَاءٍ دَافِقٍ ﴿6﴾

They were˺ created from a spurting fluid,

يَخْرُجُ مِنْ بَيْنِ الصُّلْبِ وَالتَّرَائِبِ ﴿7﴾

stemming from between the backbone and the ribcage.1

إِنَّهُ عَلَىٰ رَجْعِهِ لَقَادِرٌ ﴿8﴾

Surely He is fully capable of bringing them back ˹to life˺

يَوْمَ تُبْلَى السَّرَائِرُ ﴿9﴾

on the Day all secrets will be disclosed.

فَمَا لَهُ مِنْ قُوَّةٍ وَلَا نَاصِرٍ ﴿10﴾

Then one will have neither power nor ˹any˺ helper.

وَالسَّمَاءِ ذَاتِ الرَّجْعِ ﴿11﴾

By the sky with its recurring cycles,

وَالْأَرْضِ ذَاتِ الصَّدْعِ ﴿12﴾

and the earth with its sprouting plants!

إِنَّهُ لَقَوْلٌ فَصْلٌ ﴿13﴾

Surely this ˹Quran˺ is a decisive word,

وَمَا هُوَ بِالْهَزْلِ ﴿14﴾

and is not to be taken lightly.

إِنَّهُمْ يَكِيدُونَ كَيْدًا ﴿15﴾

They are certainly devising ˹evil˺ plans,

وَأَكِيدُ كَيْدًا ﴿16﴾

but I too am planning.

فَمَهِّلِ الْكَافِرِينَ أَمْهِلْهُمْ رُوَيْدًا ﴿17﴾

So bear with the disbelievers ˹O Prophet˺. Let them be for ˹just˺ a little while.
